PUKU RIDGE

PUKU RIDGE
The newly revitalized Puku Ridge lodge in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park pays homage to the land and local cultures while embracing the latest sustainability standards. Revamping 8 one-bedroom suites, and all main areas including front and back of house, context to the site was key during the design process, with local elements, patterns, and traditions woven into the architecture and style. Each suite offers exquisite views, indoor and outdoor showers, and a veranda with a private plunge pool. Additionally, a raised starbed concept has been incorporated, to maximize appreciation of the surrounding land and sky.
Drawing inspiration from the pronounced contours of the land, carefully stitching the lodge’s spaces into the steep hills along the perimeter of the floodplain, Luxury Frontiers was the sole firm on the project. Throughout the building process, 2,000+ tons of concrete were removed and replaced with durable, innovative, and eco-friendly solutions to ensure longevity and to pay respect to the greater environment.

“Luxury Frontiers, a firm with brands such as Belmond and Aman in its portfolio, designed the new-look lodge to blend into its surroundings. Utilising materials such as lightweight bamboo composite, the firm fused natural elements with modern luxury and the integration of traditional local art. Every piece of furniture is custom designed and the work of a local photographer decorates the walls. The entire camp is now suspended above the ground and all of it operates on hydropower.”
