TravelAge West sat down with Amangiri GM Julien Surget to discuss both the re-opening of the five-star resort post COVID-19 shutdowns as well as the grand opening of Camp Sarika by Amangiri, the new sister property designed by Luxury Frontiers. Surget relays that the previous hallmarks of Amangiri—seclusion and wide-open spaces—have become strengthened during the age of COVID-19. Surget also states that “the response [to the opening of Camp Sarika] has been fantastic…” and that “Camp Sarika is the perfect experience for the moment that we are in, because of the autonomy and the isolation.”

“A couple years ago, Amangiri’s owners met a company in South Africa that designs and builds luxury tents. Together, they came up with a hybrid product that is basically a tented pavilion. Through the design, it evokes the camp feel, with beautiful canvas walls, draped ceilings and an incredible fly sheet that’s stretched across the structure.”

Along with a distinct camp feel, Camp Sarika marks the introduction of multi-bedroom accommodations at Amangiri by boasting 10-tented pavilions, mixed between one- and two-bedroom units. All of the tented pavilions provide guests with serene seclusion and brilliantly withstand the harsh Utah desert.

In this article, Surget also reviews newly launched guest experiences, how COVID-19 has affected room rates, advice for advisors selling Amangiri, and more.
