PRESS RELEASE

Date: August 27, 2019

SURFACE MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES 2019 TRAVEL AWARDS FINALISTS

Surface is pleased to announce the finalists of the 2019 Surface Travel Awards. Now in its third year, the Surface Travel Awards program honors the best of the new spaces and products—hotels, restaurants, museums, pop-ups, airports, luggage, and more—that enhanced the traveler’s experience this year. Since its launch in 2017, the Surface Travel Awards has become one of the most prestigious award programs in the worlds of design and travel.

Winners of the 36 categories will be selected by a distinguished panel of jurors, as well as by Surface’s editorial team.

“This year’s finalists demonstrate the dynamism that is happening in global design right now,” says features director Nate Storey. “From an underwater restaurant submerged inside of a concrete shell, to a new airport’s remarkable indoor rainforest, to possibly the most tastefully designed cruise ship since Gio Ponti’s midcentury ocean liners, each finalist is special in its own way.”

This year’s jury includes chef Daniel Boulud, one of America’s leading culinary authorities; curator and cultural strategist Isolde Brielmaier, currently the national Executive Director and Curator of Arts, Culture & Community at Westfield; Suchi Reddy, founder of architecture and design firm Reddymade; and product designer Lee Broom, whose brand specializes in high-end furniture and lighting.

Winners will be announced in the fall Boundaries issue of Surface, and celebrated with a series of events in New York this October, including a celebratory brunch, panel summit, and cocktail party.
